Immunohistochemistry (IHC) is a sensitive and specific diagnostic method commonly used in the detection of infectious diseases of animals. This report reviews technical issues of IHC in the diagnosis of infectious diseases, provides immunostaining protocols for the more commonly used tests in the authors' laboratories, and discusses the IHC detection of common infectious agents of dogs and cats.
