Membrane distillation is a new membrane separation technology, which has the advantages of simple equipment, high interception rate, mild operating conditions. However, high energy consumption and low thermal efficiency limit the large-scale application of membrane distillation technology, so efficiency optimization is always an important direction of membrane distillation technology research. In this paper, recent studies on membrane distillation technology to reduce energy consumption and improve thermal efficiency are reviewed, with emphasis on renewable energy utilization, industrial waste heat utilization and latent heat recovery, providing references for its further development.
