Introduction: Labour and employment under globalization

Labour has been on the move globally, from the poor regions of the world with limited opportunities and prospects to the rich Western world with the promising vibrant opportunities for employment. The onset of globalization, through which most nations have increasingly integrated their economies to global free markets by dismantling and removing traditional barriers to trade, investment, and resource flows, tends to accelerate this move. However, the pattern of labour and human resource movements in a globalized world is hardly matched by the sources of employment required to accommodate it. The predicaments that labour and employment are facing under globalization are addressed in the collection of papers of this special issue.
