A probabilistic loss of quality cost

In the design of products and processes, the ability to both locate responses within specifications and obtain a low cost by adjusting the design parameters is an optimization problem. The single objective function is the overall cost and it is to be minimized. The production cost is usually straightforward to evaluate; the so-called loss of quality cost is more difficult. This paper presents a probability metric to evaluate the cost of the loss of quality. The method herein is quite different from the expected loss approach. In this paper, the method is presented, discussed and compared with expected loss approaches using a rubber mixing process.
