摘要
U. S Steel Canada Inc owns and operates a coke production facility in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. The effluent from the facility is discharged to the City of Hamilton's sanitary sewer and must meet strict pretreatment limits for phenol, cyanide, fluoride, phosphorus, suspended solids, BOD5, TKN and PAH. ENVIRON was retained to assist with developing the treatment process to meet these limits. The unit operations selected were: Biological treatment including nitrification and denitrification using the MS integral clarifier system. COD (including phenol) and ammonium are oxidized while nitrate is removed in an anoxic zone by reaction with a portion of incoming COD. Precipitation of residual complexed cyanide followed by solids removal. Precipitation of fluoride by calcium and aluminum followed by solids removal. Dewatering of chemical and biological sludges using a belt press, either combined or segregated. After a 3 month pilot study on site, ENVIRON developed the detailed design and the facility was constructed. Start up operations began in the spring of 2012 and the treatment plant has been fully operational since June 2012. This paper describes the treatment plant operations and present performance data for the unit operations.
