1-D and 2-D calculations of dynamo-generated magnetic fields in white dwarfs

We summarize 1-D calculations and present new 2-D calculations of dynamo generated magnetic fields in white dwarfs. We find that kG magnetic fields with oscillation periods of a few years can be generated in the surface layers of these stars. These magnetic fields could be detected through their effect on the pulsations of variable white dwarfs, but care must be taken when analyzing data taken in different observing runs as they may sample different phases of the dynamo.
