The paper presents the testing results of a comparative research regarding the seismic behaviour of geogrid-reinforced soil retaining walls. Two models were tested on a shaking table with one DOF, one of a conventional type of retaining walls, with an aspect ratio AR=0.6, and another one of a confined type with AR=0.4. Testing objectives were to record the cumulative settlements, horizontal displacements and response accelerations. With the aid of Computational Mechanics methods the 640-recorded data were processed. Confinement is essentially improving the seismic behaviour of retaining walls by reducing the settlements and horizontal displacements as well as by attenuating the response accelerations.
