Innovative use of high performance materials for durable and cost effective bridges

摘要
High performance materials (HPM's) are playing important roles in the design and construction of bridges and structures for durability, safety, speed, quality and cost effectiveness. Innovative use of HPM's has been successful in improving safety, quality and cost in highway construction projects by completing the projects faster, better.-and cheaper. The HPM's most commonly used in highway construction are high performance concrete, (HPC), high performance steel (HPS) and fiber reinforced polymers (FRP). This paper briefly describes the properties and applications of these three materials in bridge design and construction.
