The first orthotopic partial liver transplantation from living donor

On Jan 5 1995, the first orthotopic partial liver transplantation was performed from living donor who is his wife only 24 years old. The recipient was a 30 years old man with hepatocellular carcinoma in end stage. The operation lasted 15.5h. The patient recovered well at first 9 days and the graft started to produce bile soon after surgery. The patient died of cardioarrest suddenly 12 days after surgery. The donor was discharged on the 9th post operative day.
