摘要
Numerical simulations of flow past a vented sphere have been presented. Interesting interactions between the external shear layer and the vent-jet are reported. Computations using a k - epsilon turbulence model at supercritical Re show that there is no drag reduction due to venting, consistent with the experimental findings with a tripped boundary layer. Features of the near-wake flow leading to some understanding of the vortex shedding at a subcritical Re have been observed.
