摘要
Most employees have different understandings of their work role requirements to their employers' understanding. For line managers, this has important implications for their HRM role performance because work role requirements are the main source from which effective HRM roles are assessed. The purpose of this study is to investigate the effectiveness of HRM policies and practices as a signaling device for line managers to understand their HRM role requirement and expectations. Using a case study approach, four HRM policies and practices have been identified by line managers: job description, training, rewards and benefits, and work design. Results indicate that current HRM policies and practices implemented by the case study organizations failed to give clear guidance for line managers on their HRM role requirements. This study provides insights for management about the effectiveness of their current HRM policies and practices and recognizes measures in reconstructing current practices to assist employees to meet the changing demand of their work and improve performance.
