Globalisation: An opportunity for dialogue between South African and Asian social work educators

During the second half of the twentieth century, the developing world has bans the brunt of the negative consequences of globalisation. With respect to social work education and Graining, globalisation has often resulted in inappropriate training, practice and services. Through describing the various themes which arose during a visit by a South African social work educator to a number of centres in Asia, this article explores the pertinence of developing a dialogue between South African and Asian social work educators and trainers, and concludes that such dialogue has the potential to be more empowering and beneficial for social work in these developing countries than continued deference to western models of social work education and training.
