Patients who need implant-supported prostheses in the maxilla might not have sufficient bone height in the posterior region for implants. Treatment alternatives in such cases include either bone graft augmentation followed by implants or nongrafting options. This report discusses 2 nongrafting options for prosthetic rehabilitation in these patients. An extensive summary of the published data has been performed to provide evidence for these recommendations. (C) 2009 American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons
