The concept of the asynchronous Sigma-Delta modulator based on the charge pump integrator is discussed in the paper. The configurations of the charge pump either with bipolar, or with unipolar controlled current sources are presented. The benefits of a use of the charge pump to provide the integration is emphasized. The conditions for the input signal reconstruction from the timed sequence on the modulator output are derived. The design of the charge-pump-based modulator model, based on classical solutions of the bipolar technology, is exemplified.
