Evaluation of YBa2Cu3O7-δ thin films ablated from melt-textured-growth YBa2Cu3O7-δ target by electron microscopy

YBa2Cu3O7-delta (YBCO) thin films ablated from melt-textured-growth (MTG) YBCO target (containing-Y211 phases) by pulsed laser deposition were studied by transmission electron microscopy. The films grow epitaxially on the SrTiO3 substrates in a c-axis orientation with very few large particles on the film surface: instead rectangular Y2O3 inclusions were embedded in the films. The crystallographic relationship was (100)Y2O3//(001)YBCO, [011]Y2O3//[010]YBCO. The inclusions do not degrade the superconducting property of the YBCO films. MTG YBCO targets result in films with lower level of large impurity particles.
