Nonlinear Backstepping Control of Variable Speed Wind Turbine Based on Permanent Magnet Synchronous Generator

摘要
This paper presents an effective control strategy applied for a Wind Energy Conversion System (WECS) based on a direct drive of the Permanent Magnet Synchronous Generator (PMSG). The machine connection to the grid is provided by a back-to-back rectifier-inverter based on the IGBT. The proposed nonlinear control strategy is Backstepping control (BC) based on the Lyapunov approach and applied to static converters. A DC bus stage is adjusted between the Machine Side Converter and the Grid Side Converter which is driven by pulse width modulation (PWM). The main objective of this control lies in the power optimal extraction for a wind turbine that operates in variable speed mode. The proposed strategy effectiveness is proven by the simulation results of the complete system in terms of accuracy, tracking and energy efficiency.
