An example of geological investigation in a karst area in Lower Austria

For the design of a Hydro Power Plant at the Danube east of Vienna detailed geological investigations were performed 1981-1984. The hot springs of Bad Deutsch Altenburg at the eastern margin of the Vienna basin were of special interest. As the result of a drilling campaign a detailed 3-dimensional geologic model was constructed. Chemical and isotopic data of water samples allow a separation into different groups. Additional measurement of the temperature show where thermal water raises and is mixed with karstic water and water of the Danube. As chemical analyses have been continued, the results of the different groups are presented for 13 years of water sampling in a poster.
