THE PROBLEM OF COMMUNICATION IN ARISTOTLE'S ETHICAL WORKS AND MODERNITY

The manuscript is about the origins of modem communication theory. It "calls" for a careful reading of philosophical classics. Special attention is paid to Aristotle's ethical works but not only in connection with his anniversary. Aristotle's understanding of the problem of communication as intercourse is relevant today more than ever. Communication as a multidisciplinary problem is often interpreted unilaterally. In the foreground there is a manipulative side of intercourse, not its humanistic side. For example, research in the field of Neuro-linguistic programming. Philosophy of dialogue is on the opposite pole. The metaphysical depth of its research often separates it from the needs of the philosophical practice. Meanwhile, question of the moral significance of fullness of interpersonal interactions is becoming increasingly important in the modem philosophy of communication. It is considered by Aristotle in global terms (political communication and dialogue as the ties of the state) and in "chamber" terms. He explores some form of intercourse (friendship); he reflects on what should the optimal range of human communication; about communication as a means of selfknowledge; about the role of self-communication in life of decent and vicious humans. Most fully in ancient philosophy Aristotle answers these and other questions which are so important for modem humanity.
