摘要
Close-coupled calculations are presented for positron scattering by Mg atoms. We examine the effect upon elastic scattering and excitation of the target when the coupling between the target and the Ps(n = 1, 2) channels is taken into account. The calculations are performed within the single-active-electron approximation. The final cross sections are obtained by implementing the independent particle model. The inclusion of the coupling between the target and Ps channels is found to significantly change the behaviour of the target cross sections for impact energies below about 30 eV. Positronium formation is found to be the dominant inelastic process in the impact energy range below about 15 eV. The present partial cross section estimates are of interest in the light of the first experimental work recently performed for positron-Mg scattering.
