:
(Chemical Equation Presented) Building bridges: The crystal structure of the zinc enzyme NisC was solved recently by X-ray diffraction. This cyclase single-handedly catalyzes the formation of several sulfide bridges in the dehydrated precursor protein NisA of the lantibiotic nisin. The Highlight discusses the impact of these results on the field of lantibiotic research. © 2006 Wiley-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA.
