Synthesis and characterization of dialkyldithiophosphate complexes of gallium(III)

Treatment of gallium(III) chloride with ammonium dialkyldithiophosphate in benzene afford complexes of the type [GaCl3.n{S2P(OR)(2)}(n)] (n = 1,2,3; R = Et, Pr-n, Pr-i). The chloro complexes can be readily obtained by the reaction of gallium trichloride with gallium tris(dialkyldithiophosphate) in benzene at room temperature. All these complexes were characterized by elemental analysis, IR, NMR (H-1, C-13 and P-31) and spectral data. NMR studies indicate the monochloro complexes to be fluxional at room temperature.
