摘要
This paper deals with the challenges of ERP systems to Support operations of manufacturing SMEs. We studied the knowledge needed in production processes and the current use of an ERP system in four case companies. Our findings show that the studied ERP system provides little functionalities for managing changes in, e.g. product configurations, production schedules or anticipating delays in deliveries. As these kinds of changing situations are typical for SMEs, ERP systems should offer better tools for communication and feedback. The paper proposes guidelines for ERP development that would support knowledge management particularly in SMEs. The research also suggests that SMEs should consider ERP implementation as an ongoing process of maintenance and development if it is to support the organisation's activities.
