摘要
The species Aeollanthus suaveolens is commonly known as catinga-de-mulata and it is an essential oil-producer plant. Few studies are reported in the literature regarding the biological investigation of catinga-de-mulata. Moreover, to the best of our knowledge, no efforts to develop its nano-emulsions were carried out. The aim of the present study was to obtain antibacterial nano-emulsions containing the essential oil of A. suaveolens. An optimal system was achieved by using polysorbate 80 and sorbitan monooleate as surfactants. The antimicrobial activity was a hundred percent enhanced, when compared to the activity of the bulk essential oil. The present study shows the potential of A. aeollanthus essential oil as a raw material for an interesting bioactive nano-emulsion through an ecofriendly, low energy and solvent-free method.
