摘要
The two terminal degrees in nursing, the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), are complementary degrees in moving the discipline of nursing forward. The role of nurses with either doctoral degree is discussed related to the overall stewardship of the nursing profession. Core elements and key differences between the two degrees will be delineated. Factors affecting practical decision-making about either degree will be discussed, including the choice of which degree as well as funding doctoral education. Finally, future directions for the two degrees in the nursing profession will be discussed.
