Readability of the quality of life scales for older people

The assessment of quality of life has been shown to be interrelated with health in the elderly population. The selection of scales appropriate to the level of literacy of the population under study means that more reliable results can be obtained. Objective: To analyse the readability of scales and questionnaires that assess quality of life in the elderly population. Methodology: The most commonly used scales for assessing quality of life in the elderly were selected. Subsequently, an analysis of the readability of the scales was carried out using the free software INFLESZ V1.0. Results: The scales SF-36 Health Survey, SF-12 Health Survey, SEIQoL-DW, WHOQoL-Old version 33 and version 20 and HRQoL present a "Fairly Easy" readability and the scales EQ-5D and FUMAT present a "Normal" readability. Conclusions: The "Fairly Easy" readability quality of life scales might be the most suitable for the older population.
