Synthesis of titanium carbide and titanium diboride by mechanochemical displacement reaction

摘要
The synthesis of TiC and Ti B2 by mechanochemical-displacement reactions of TiO2 with carbon or boron and calcium as reducing agent was studied. The formation of TiC and TiB2 was explained by the displacement reactions started by the exothermic reaction of TiO2 with calcium during milling. Lattice parameters obtained for TiC and TiB2 powders was extremely low due to short milling times required for the reactions.
