Dielectric and electromechanical properties of [001]-textured (0.68)Pb(Mg1/3Nb2/3)-(O.32)PbTiO3

Reactive templated grain growth (RTGG) was used to obtain [001] fiber-textured (1-x)Pb(Mg1/3Nb2/3)O-3(x)PbTiO3 (x=0.3-0.35). The RTGG process involved the use of < 001 > -oriented BaTiO3 and SrTiO3 template particles in a fine grained precursor PMN-32PT matrix during tape casting. A high degree of texture coupled with high density was observed in the samples prepared from a matrix composed of uncalcined PMN-32PT precursor. Unipolar strain measurements on textured ceramics indicated considerably higher strain levels (similar to0.25-0.3%) and d(33) values (similar to 1000-1400 pC/N) than untextured samples. Well saturated hysteresis loops associated with a P-r of 27 muC/cm(2) were obtained on these samples.
