摘要
The physics of tsunami to undergraduate and non-physics students is discussed. Margaritondo developed a simple derivation by extending to shallow-water waves a clever capillary wave model. The main properties of tsumani that devastated southern Asia, can thus be obtained with an elementary and straightforward procedure suitable for undergraduates in physics and other deciplines. Margaritondo also noticed that the wavelength value typically range from a few kilometers to hundreds of kilometers and are thus much longer than the hundreds of meter wavelengths of common wind-generated waves near a beach.
