Along with the discontinued tradition of designing and constructing wooden buildings, which here since the 1960s devoted to shelters, stops or cottages, the feeling for this natural material has been completely lost. Therefore, the author seeks to contribute to the stimulation of discussion on the design of buildings using rod and surface elements, with references to the basic composition, imitation of buildings from other materials and durable proven details of wooden buildings. There, he draws particular attention to the laying of the building, the dripping noses, unnecessary flashing and the solution of the mechanical treatment of the timber elements before any surface treatment. But especially for details of floors, stairs, handrails or wall corners, it can be seen that they cannot be made from today's soft woods for longer use. Perhaps the more significant shifts in the thinking of investors, designers and companies that want to work with wood as wood will help the current bark beetle calamity...
