摘要
Introduction: Necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) is one of the most common and serious gastrointestinal diseases in preterm infants. It occurs when the tissue of the small or large intestine is damaged or disappearing. The aim of this study was to determine the prognostic effect of MPV in neonates with necrotizing enterocolitis at Afzalipour Hospital during 2015-2017.Materials and methods: This was a case-control study. The statistical population consisted of all neonates referred to Afzalipour hospitals. The case group included neonates with NEC admitted to Afzalipur hospitals, and the control group consisted of neonates admitted to neonatal ward with diagnoses other than NEC and Sepsis. Data was collected from infant's file, entered a checklist, then analyzed by SPSS software and statistical tests. Results and discussion: There was no statistically significant difference between mean MPV levels in the NEC and control group. The mean levels of NOUT (P=0.001), Lym (P=0.001), Hg (P=0.001), HTC (P=0.001), MCV (P=0.001) and K (P =0.001) were significantly lower in Nec group. The mean levels of BUN (P =0.001), FBS (P=0.001), Na (P=0.001), Bilirubin direct (P=0.001) and CRP (P =0.001) infants with NCE were significantly higher. Conclusions: The results of the study showed that MPV alone cannot be used as a marker in determining neonatal prognonsis with NEC.
