Structure of molybdenum trioxide prepared from MoO3•H2O

摘要
As evidenced by x-ray diffraction, thermal analysis, and IR spectroscopy data, dehydration (air, 200 degrees C) of the hydrous molybdenum trioxide precipitated by adding nitric acid to a solution of (NH4)(6)Mo7O24 yields a hexagonal phase (a = 10.576(4) Angstrom, c = 3.728(4) Angstrom) containing ammonium ions. Calcination of this phase at temperatures between 300 and 400 degrees C yields orthorhombic molybdenum trioxide free of foreign ions.
