Operations of a gas pressure regulator under a great pressure difference generate significant noise which is reduced using mufflers installed directly after the regulator or built into its design. However, the introduction of a muffler into the regulator design affects the static and dynamic characteristics of the regulator as a result of which an analysis of the dynamics of the system as a whole is needed. We present the results of study of the dynamic characteristics of an upgraded commercial regulator with a built-in muffler. The stability of the system is analyzed in the linear approximation, and the combined effect of the parameters of the muffler and the regulator on system dynamics is examined. The results obtained can be used in designing gas pressure regulators combined with mufflers.
