摘要
Infectious diarrhea in children remains an important cause of morbidity in North America. Children younger than 5 years of age are affected most commonly, with rotavirus, nontyphoidal Salmonella, Campylobacter, and Giardia being the predominantly encountered pathogens. Oral rehydration therapy, which was introduced in the mid-1960s, continues to be the mainstay of therapy, whereas antibiotic therapy is reserved for specific clinical situations and infections, and prophylactic vaccination remains experimental.
