摘要
The UKIRT Infrared Deep Sky Survey (UKIDSS) is observing about 7,000 square degrees of the northern sky in the near-IR. Summed together it is 12 times larger in effective volume than the 2MASS survey. The scientific aims of UKIDSS include the detection of the nearest and faintest substellar objects and brown dwarfs, probe the substellar initial mass function, detect clusters of galaxies at z similar to 2 and detect high redshift quasars at z similar to 6-7. We give here a short introduction to UKIDSS focusing mainly on the search for high-z quasars.
