[image omitted] An expedient approach to cis- and trans-3-aminocyclobutanecarboxylic acids was developed starting from 1,1-cyclobutanedicarboxylic acid. Stereochemistry of the title compounds was established by nuclear Overhauser effect spectroscopy experiments.
