摘要
The first successful flight demonstration of aerial deployment of Mars balloon prototypes in June 2002 and of a Venus balloon prototype in 1999 is deemed to be a turning point in the risk assessment of balloon missions. These flight tests as well as preceding development, simulations and tests have brought a better understanding of major influencing factors and proved the feasibility of the concept. A low-cost dedicated or piggyback mission based on this technology could be the first opportunity for planetary balloon missions.
