The views of Patricia Ann Mabrouk on the award committees that are are established by different organizations for honoring chemical research professionals with awards are discussed. The author states that the award ceremonies provide an opportunity for her, to gather information about her colleagues and other professionals. She states that despite the increase in the number of women professionals, few women are being nominated for awards. She works as an associate on the American Chemical Society's (ACS) Women Chemists Committee (WCC). The WCC has been making efforts at increasing the number of women nominees in award committees and ceremonies. The WCC has organized two events at the Spring 2008 National ACS Meeting, held in New Orleans, US, to disseminate information to chemical research professionals, concerning awards and application process.
