Serious rash after prolonged use of lamotrigine - report of four cases

Hypersensitivity reactions related to antiepileptic drugs usually occur within the first two months after initiation of therapy. We describe four patients who developed late allergic reaction on the skin after prolonged exposure to lamotrigine monotherapy, from among about 500 patients treated with this drug in our center. Their reaction was severe enough to require discontinuation of the lamotrigine. Hypersensitivity reaction related to the administration of LTG was confirmed not only clinically but also by allergological tests.
