Psychoanalysis and psychotherapy at the sources of the metaphor

Dr Etchegoyen wrote a paper entitled: ''The foundations of psychoanalytic technique'', his study connects the ideas of Freud, Clover and Meltzer and opens a new area of research, that of the dynamics of unconscious thought. The primary processes described by Freud are the producers of human thought and the thought processes of human beings are basically metaphoric. Metaphoric ability is the secret of the development of thought, metaphors are at the very basis of the individual's experience, linked to individual thought yet rooted in culture. Conceptual metaphorical models thus show their limits in the assimilation of different experiences whilst bringing similarities together. A case study shows that physical pain is intimate to the extent that it is ''reused by the metaphor and projected into the dream''.
