摘要：

This paper analyzes the novel The posthumous Memoirs of Bras Cubas, by Machado de Assis, through the point of view of Lukacs's theories on the historical novel. Firstly, we present the course of the ideology concept over time from authors who have used it in different ways in different historical contexts. Then, we analyze Lukacs' work, The Historical Novel, his theory, and how ideology is understood by this author and its use in the interpretation of Machado's literary narrative, marked by the ideology of a proto-bourgeois character in a patriarchal and slavery context.
