摘要
International Joint Ventures (IJVs) formed by firms in emerging markets have been extensively examined to provide an avenue for learning, technology transfer and innovation. Outward Foreign Direct Investment (OFDI) from emerging markets to other nations has been increasing in the last few decades. Wholly owned subsidiaries and global IJVs are two prominent forms of OFDI from emerging markets. There is a need to examine global IJVs ability to facilitate learning, technology transfer and innovation in emerging market firms. This study attempts to explore the effect of two important factors: type of IJVs and interdependence between parent firms on learning, technology transfer and innovation from global IJVs formed by emerging market firms abroad. Case study methodology has been used to examine the propositions. The study finds that learning, technology transfer and innovation are facilitated in global IJVs irrespective of the type of IJVs or interdependence between parent firms.
