Nitric oxide-releasing mesalamine: potential utility for treatment of inflammatory bowel disease

Nitric oxide can accelerate ulcer healing and exert anti-inflammatory effects. Addition of a nitric oxide-releasing moiety to mesalamine significantly boosts its anti-inflammatory activity.
