Spectral vorticity method for computation of axial and near-axial flow over long circular cylinders

摘要
A numerical procedure has been developed for simulation of the boundary layer on a long circular cylinder in axial or near-axial flow. The vorticity transport equation is solved on a cylindrical domain using a Fourier-Chebyshev spectral representation for the flow fields and a stiffly-stable time integration scheme. The outer boundary condition for velocity is determined adaptively at each timestep by application of an analytical potential flow solution. The paper presents details of the procedure and initial validation test results.
