This article discusses the instructional practice of supporting second graders information book writing with focused read-alouds that include discussions of information book genre elements, features, and organizational structure. The authors present specific examples of instruction and discuss the resulting information book compositions by second-grade authors that demonstrate for teachers how information book read-alouds can support young writers genre knowledge development. © 2010 International Reading Association, Inc.
