Surgical correction of pectus excavatum in a cat In this case description, we report a severe pectus excavatum in a six-month-old European shorthair cat with progressive cardiopulmonary clinical signs. The treatment consisted of an application of a coaptation splint by placing stay sutures around the sternum. The clinical signs already disappeared the day after surgery; therefore, good clinical results were achieved. The splint was removed after 14 days. Later on, a mild recurrence of dorsal alignment of the sternum was observed but clinical signs of respiratory distress or heart dysfunction did not reoccur.
