Union College, a private liberal arts college with engineering is experimenting with a new undergraduate paradigm for integrating the arts, humanities, and sciences with modern technology and engineering in a way that will enhance student's technological literacy for the 21st century. The college agenda's "Converging Technologies" (CT) refers to new interdisciplinary areas that build on strengths in both engineering and liberal arts, and on tradition of academic innovation. Now, students from Union College can explore courses, programs and research opportunities in a list of intersectional fields. A list of issues has been developed to address the implementation of the Converging Technologies program. These issues include staffing, curriculum, space and facilities, budgets, publicity and fund raising. CT innovations affect social and cultural values more rapidly than any single process in recent history and this has created a need to develop postmodern programs that provide graduates with the necessary skills to become independent learners and leaders of the 21st century.
