Low-complexity diversity receiver for single/multi-band UWB

As wireless networks evolve to provide an unprecedented variety of services, heterogeneity emerges among network nodes. To establish physical communication links between nodes with distinct complexity requirements, asymmetric transceivers need to be designed. In the ultra-wideband (UWB) regime, there are two major complexity issues: sampling rate and channel estimation. In this paper, we develop very low-complexity UWB receivers, which are capable of collecting multipath diversity by sampling at a fraction of the Nyquist rate as well as circumventing channel estimation. By doing so, we establish asymmetric UWB links to account for and take advantage of the heterogeneity among network nodes. Our analysis and simulations confirm that our low-complexity diversity receiver is operational with both single-band and multi-band UWB transmitters.
