摘要
Mild cognitive impairment (MCI) is a pathologic transitional period which lies in between "healthy" and "dementia" and designates a clinical entity with increased risk of dementia. Underlying pathological process, although in most patients degenerative, can be diverse including psychiatric (depression, anxiety), vascular and other etiologies and some of these can be treatable. Different subtypes of MCI have different prognosis. MCI patients with irreversible etiologies should be seen every 6-12 months for clinical evaluation (history, physical and neurological examination) and neuropsychological testing to determine if it progressed to dementia.
