FABRICATION OF NANO-TiO2 COATED MORPHGENETIC CARBON AND ITS PHOTOCATALYTIC PERFORMANCE

摘要
Morphgenetic carbons (MCs) made from biomass are expected to be used as catalyst supports due to the muti-hierarchal structure of their pores. Hydrolytic precipitation was used to deposit a tetra-n-butyl titanate monomer onto morphgenetic carbons made from water bamboo leaves using the sol-gel method, and then the precursors were heated at 400 degrees C, resulting in formation of TiO2-coated morphgenetic carbon composites (TiO2/MCs). The TiO2/MC composites were characterized by SEM, XRD, and optical absorption spectroscopy. Fine TiO2 particles were coated on the walls of the micrometer-sized pores. Methylene blue in an aqueous suspension of the TiO2/MC powders was degraded efficiently by ultraviolet light irradiation.
