Computational fluid dynamics applied to automotive engine related problems in Japan

Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) recently applied to automotive engine related problems in Japan is overviewed. Application areas considered include steady intake-port flow, unsteady in-cylinder gas motion, fuel-air mixture gas formation in intake port and in cylinder, combustion and exhaust emissions formation in cylinder, engine coolant how in cylinder block. Reviewing these applications, in concluding remarks, some comments are given on the current status of CFD as an engineering tool for developing the engine system.
